Federal Agencies Get Sustainability Goals from
Obama
President Obama has
signed an executive
order setting
sustainability goals for
federal agencies and
requiring improvements
in their environmental,
energy and economic
performance.
Federal agencies have 90
days to set greenhouse
gas emissions reduction
targets for the year
2020 and meet the
following specific
energy, water and waste
reduction targets for
the same year:
- Reduce vehicle fleet
petroleum use by 30%
- Improve water
efficiency by 26%
- Ensure 95% of all
applicable contracts
meet sustainability
requirements
- Reduce building
energy requirements.

New York Begins Pilot Program for Coffee Cup Recycling
Effort Could Change the Fate of Billions of Cups

The most extensively recycled material in the United States is old corrugated cardboard (OCC). Global Green USAs
Coalition for Resource Recovery (CoRR) is collecting coffee cups from seven Starbucks stores in Manhattan to
combine with OCC with the objective of developing a cost effective way to close the loop on paper packaging,
reducing greenhouse gases and assisting municipalities in reaching their solid waste diversion goals.
